To Eat the Pie or Not to Eat the Pie

The holidays can be the best time and the worst time to think about health and nutrition. There are many opportunities for indulgence, sometimes on the daily, the stress level can be off the charts and there is often no time for self-care.

In permaculture it is said that the problem is the solution and I propose that the same is true here. Every indulgence and stressor is an opportunity for reflection and mindfulness. It’s a chance to listen to your body, experience pleasure and let go of the stuff that doesn’t serve you. If you get out of your head and listen to what your body is saying, it will tell you what you need to know.

When you’re looking at the holiday treats, have one or don’t but don’t beat yourself up about it either way. Try this: Take a moment and ask your body what it wants. Don’t get into your head and justify one way or another, just quiet your mind and listen to your body. It will speak.

When your stressing over all the things do this: Think about what will be important to you when you are 80. I’m pretty sure that t’s not going to be saving a few calories over Thanksgiving dinner or measuring up to your neighbor, or how much money is in the bank. It’s going to be sharing moments, loving others, and experiencing joy.

That all said, I’m going to go and eat a piece of leftover apple pie and a piece of bacon for breakfast. I’m going to love every bite and then I’m going to get on with this beautiful day.
